Sonnets

Sonnets have been an important form of poetry for hundreds of years and although have decreased in popularity they are still recognized today. I find there structure appealing and well organized and with regards to people finding them too limited I think being able to fit a poem's ideas and concepts into a given structure takes more skill than simply writing a poem free-verse.

EXACTLY!! also sonnets are a great form of poetry since they can convey the more musical and artistic side of the poet, and can also tell a story in a simple, well-structured, 14-line sonnet. Remember, it's not just a sonnet...it's our grade :/

Damn you shakespeare and your aristocratic, poetic nature!! Damn you to ONE HUNDRED YEARS OF SOLITUDE!!! >:D MUAHAHAHHAAAAA!!

I actually never thought of it that way, i thought having it more limited would help shape your thoughts and make it easier to write. I guess you're right though, a free verse poem would be much easier to write, given that it doesn't have to follow a specific structure and rhyme scheme.

i completely agree with u! i find the fact that we have to write an acual sonnet is...sucky? (i have to make sure to use the appropriate language) but in conclusion sonnets aren't short and have lots of ideas and themes in them which make them great to analayze but are no fun to read at all...

PS: yes..i said masturbation twice...get your head out of your pants nini :P

Hani, I really didn't think about it in that way...You are write, now just thinking of writing one is difficult, how must Shakespear feel after writing like 154! WOW!
I free verse poem is certainly easier to write, with no specific rhyme scheme and no specific meter!

by the way, how did i know your blog was going to be so plain? (even though i like the cartoon)
